Dried thyme is one of the most beloved herbs in Western cooking. Harvested from the Thymus vulgaris plant, it retains much of its aromatic potency even after drying, making it a convenient pantry staple year-round. Its flavor profile is slightly minty, earthy, and subtly floral, with notes of clove and lavender. Thyme pairs exceptionally well with garlic, lemon, olive oil, and other Mediterranean staples.

Dried thyme is incredibly versatile. It enhances the taste of roasted chicken, grilled fish, braised meats, soups, stews, and vegetable dishes. It is a key component in herb blends such as herbes de Provence and za’atar, and it works beautifully in tomato-based sauces, marinades, and salad dressings.

When cooking with dried thyme, it's best to add it early in the process so that the heat can coax out its full flavor. Unlike fresh thyme, dried thyme does not have tough stems to remove, making it easier to use. However, be mindful of its concentration: you generally need only one-third the amount of fresh thyme.
