The Best Green Bean Casserole Recipe

This green bean casserole is the ultimate comfort side dish. Creamy, savory, and topped with crispy fried onions, it’s a holiday favorite that couldn’t be easier to make. With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up this classic casserole from scratch.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions, divided
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and blanch for 3–4 minutes, until bright green and crisp-tender. Drain well and transfer to a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), half of the fried onions, and a pinch of pepper. Pour the mixture over the green beans and stir gently to coat.
  3. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the sauce is bubbly and the beans are tender. Sprinkle the remaining fried onions on top and bake for another 5 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  4. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
